(On the left) Snapshot of the first presentation of the Cretan Tracer that was held in 1994 in the Venetian walls in Oasis - Herakleion. It was the first time that Cretan Tracers were presented in public. Attendance was impressive for this new local breed. 40 Cretan Tracers took part and they were granted rewards of attendance. This was the beginning for national recognition of the dog that motivated many owners to stop keeping their dogs hidden but to present them and start breeding them. Also, as the event was published in the hunting press and presented on television, the Cretan Tracer became more widely known beyond Crete. (On the right) Mr. Michalis Giourgos presenting legendary ‘Petousa’ to Dr.St. Basourakos for judgement. In all three presentations she was judged as ‘excellent’. On the mountains she was an exemplary tracer and pursuer with patience, insistence and speed. In other words, she was excellent in every aspect.
(On the left) Mr. Papadakis Emm. from Sitia, a baker in profession and a fanatic hunter. Here he is presenting his two dogs for judgement. Mr Papadakis was one of the few people in the region of Sitia who would guide us in villages and visit owners of Cretan Tracers with Dr.St. Basourakos so as to record and measure them and thus to publish the study for the Cretan Tracer. (On the right) Mr Chatzakis Ioannis from Ierapetra presenting his ‘Petousa’, a very good female tracer, fast and insistent in hunting. Her colour was what we call ‘chelio’ (Black on the upper part of the body, progressively becoming lighter towards the lower part resulting in an off-white colour on the lower legs) In Crete, these dogs are called ‘kartsonides’ that is to say ‘wearing socks’.
